Light can affect the tannins in the wine, which ultimately degrades the color and nose of your wine. That’s why it’s critical to protect wine from light.
Here’s the Science:
Called “lightstruck flavor” in a study conducted by Maujean and Seguin (1983), wine exposed to light can form volatile sulfur compounds. Light exposure to susceptible white wines can exacerbate copper instability, affecting quality, taste and aroma.
It’s for this reason Marvel Wine Cellars are designed with an argon-filled, dual-pane, tinted, UV-resistant glass door and a dark interior to protect again damaging ultraviolet light, while also maintaining energy efficiency and allowing you to showcase your collection.
